Dollars for Scholars:
Students helping Students

What can you do with a dollar? Get a soda. Play a scratch and win. Buy 0.3 gallons of gas.

Or, you can change your school.

Since the Fall of 2009 several of your fellow students have been working as representatives to the School of the Arts Student Advisory Board. An important fact we have learned through our service to SOTA is this: Just 21% of our education is funded by the state. The rest comes from private philanthropy. The importance of Jayhawk generosity to the university can't be overstated.

So in the Fall of 2010, we, your Student Advisory Board, started a tradition of giving at the School of the Arts. "Dollars for Scholars: Students Helping Students" is a new annual fundraising drive. Every dollar collected will directly benefit one of the four departments in SOTA on a rotating basis. The school will also contribute to our goal, so every dollar you give goes further!

Our inaugural fundraiser benefitted the Janet Hamburg Dance Scholarship as a gesture of cross-departmental student support to our fellow and future students in Dance. The collected money was presented to the department at the Spring University Dance Concert in April 2011. Our next fundraiser will benefit one of the other three departments.

Here's how you can help:

Consider donating what you can. Our goal is $1 per student. To donate you may do one of the following:

  1. Visit your department's main office where donation jars can be located.
  2. Visit the Dean's office in 200 Strong Hall (Please see Liz Kowalchuk)
  3. Or, for you convenience and ease, you can give securely online through the KU Endowment website at: www.kuendowment.org/depts/arts/dollarsforscholars
  4. Please help spread the word by announcing the drive in any classes you may teach or with students you work with on campus.

We appreciate your support!
