Who We Are
The School of the Arts is the creative heart of KU. Housed within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, our creative and scholarly work centers on Film & Media Studies, Theatre & Dance, and Visual Art, but encompasses subjects across the humanities, STEM fields, and professional schools.
With 650+ students, more than 60 faculty, and 14 degree programs, the School of the Arts is the largest arts unit at KU. Through student collaboration and faculty mentorship, you have the opportunity to inspire the imagination, increase participation in the arts, and make an impact on culture in Lawrence and beyond.
The arts are for everyone. They are connective and interactive. They interpret, represent and question. The arts evoke emotions, compel you to question your values and views, elicit joy, and create an escape. The arts are a visible expression of society and culture, one that transcends global boundaries. Study the arts at KU and you will experience the support that is all around you, at the University level, from your department, the School of the Arts, student organizations, clubs, and more. The School of the Arts at KU understands the importance of experiential learning in your education and will nurture your creative growth.
You will learn to cross boundaries, to reflect on the world, and to push the limits of your imagination and creativity.
